Ms. Dashti is a leading Kuwaiti economist and long-time champion of women’s rights, gender equality and democratic reform.
She served as member of the Supreme Planning Council in Kuwait. From 2012 to 2014, she was Minister for Planning and Development and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. Ms. Dashti played a pivotal role in advocating for a decree to allow Kuwaiti women to vote and run for parliamentary elections. In May 2009, she and three others became the first women to be elected to the Kuwait parliament.
She has held key positions in research and development institutions, such as the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and has worked for major national and international financial and development institutions, such as the National Bank of Kuwait and the World Bank. She also managed contracts for the Kuwaiti Emergency and Reconstruction Program during the invasionto-post liberation period.
She is a regular contributor to regional and international policy forums on global governance, economic development and integration, democratization, and women’s empowerment in the MENA region.
She has served as chairperson for the Arab Planning Institute, and for the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council for the MENA region. She was a member of the advisory panel for the World Bank on Middle East political and economic transition, of the advisory council for the Arab Human Development Report 2009, of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in Kuwait, and of the Executive Committee of Young Arab LeadersKuwait Chapter. She served on the executive board of the Pan-Arab Women Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Violence against Women, and on the board of the Arab Women Parliamentarians Network for Equality (Ra’edat).
She won the North-South Prize of the Council of Europe for 2010 together with Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev. She also received the Clinton Global Citizens Award for 2009, the Vital Voices Global Leadership Award for 2006, and the King Hussein Humanitarian award for 2005. She is listed among the top 150 women leaders by Business Week, among the top 20 businesswomen in the Arab region by the Financial Times, and among the world’s 100 most powerful Arabs by Arabian Business. She was featured in The Next Founders: Voices of Democracy in the Middle East as a leader and a champion for women’s rights from Kuwait.
Ms. Dashti holds a doctorate degree in population dynamics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, a master’s degree in economics and finance from California State University in Sacramento, and a bachelor of science in agriculture economics from California State University in Chico. She speaks Arabic and English fluently.

His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud is the Fifth son of
His Late Royal Highness Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud a globally recognized
humanitarian and human development advocate. He is also the grandson of the late King
Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, founder of modern-day Saudi Arabia.
In his own right, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal Al-Saud is deeply invested in humanitarian and
philanthropic efforts, serving as a member of the Leadership Council of the New York-based
Concordia Summit, and is a co-chair for the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations
(NCUSAR) International Advisory Committee.
In October 2020, His Highness was appointed as Chairman of Arab Gulf Program
for Development (AGFUND). Established by his late father and the heads of states of the
GCC countries, AGFUND aims at the roots of human development problems, targeting all
segments of society without discrimination. In partnership with 44 international, regional,
and governmental organizations, it has 1,578 projects in 133 countries. He also actively sits as
Chairman for four of the five specialized development organizations established by
AGFUND including, Arab Open University (AOU), Arab Council for Childhood and
Development (ACCD), and Center of Arab Woman for Training and Research (CAWTAR).
His commitment to his homeland has remained a constant throughout his life. In 2018, he cofounded the Ahyaha Foundation in partnership with his wife, Princess Sora bint Saud AlSaud, with the mission of improving the community through sustainable, creative, and
social programs. The foundation’s crucial humanitarian works support childhood and
social development, female empowerment, and scholarship programs and undertake other
innovative projects to further its mission.
His Royal Highness also has a passion for engaging with today’s youth. His involvement
has included lectures at several universities abroad, such as The Sorbonne in Paris, Arab
Open University (AOU) in Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Ankara University in Turkey. His
Highness has delivered lectures in the United States at Brigham Young University (BYU),
American University (AU), and Robert Morris University (RMU).

The Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security, and Agriculture at the University of Chicago together with the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) collaborate on a substantial initiative until 2030.
The Flagship Initiative will promote the scaling of innovations that support the transformation towards diverse, resilient, sustainable, and nutritious agri-food systems to help millions of people in some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable regions, in particular drylands. The Flagship aims to support small-scale farmers and landless workers in overcoming the hurdles posed by desertification and climate change and contribute positively to food security. Notably, this flagship project will employ ready-to-scale evidence-based and cost-effective innovations to address climate adaptation and mitigation in food systems in Africa.
The flagship will be announced and presented at UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Over the next five years, the scope of the Flagship will be widened by (a) making it global as desertification is a global issue, and by (b) addressing the interrelated challenges of land, climate, water, and biodiversity. Until 2030 the Flagship will remain open for any government, financial institution, private sector, and beyond to join at any time.

Dr. Conrad Rein, a German national, leads the policy outreach activities of the University of Chicago’s Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security and Agriculture chaired by Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Kremer. He works with governments, international organizations, the private sector, and others, and leads a major Flagship Initiative with the Arab Coordination Group to be announced and presented at UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh on December 5.
